2009 NICHE Awards Competition

Sponsored by NICHE magazine, the annual NICHE Awards competition celebrates
excellence and innovation in American and Canadian craft. Artists are recognized
in professional and student divisionsThe NICHE Awards annually celebrate
excellence and innovation in American and Canadian craft. Categories include
Ceramics, Fiber, Glass, Metal, Wood, Jewelry, Home Furnishings, Judaica,
Recycled and many more. New categories added to the professional division this
year are Art Quilts and Fashion Accessories. Judging is based on three main
criteria:1. technical excellence, both in surface design and form 2. market
viability (professional entries only) 3. a distinct quality of unique, original
and creative thought Finalists are invited to display their work in the NICHE
Awards exhibit at the February Buyers Market of American Craft will be included
in the Winter 2009 issue of NICHE magazine. Winners will be announced at a
special ceremony held during the February 2009 Buyers Market and featured in the

San Angelo National Ceramic Competition - The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts hosts
the National Ceramic Competition, continuing a tradition of support and recognition of contemporary ceramic arts. The first competition was held in 1986. It remained an annual exhibit through 1996, when, due to its growing size and popularity, the Museum changed the competition to a biennial event. The national competition is now held every April on the even numbered years and on the odd numbered years an invitational ceramic exhibit is installed.

A national juried competition to select 95-100 quality pieces of functional pottery for this exhibition. It has been held annually since 1993, and is open free of charge to the public for one month. It is recognized as one of the top ceramic exhibitions in the country.
