Damaged Fire Brick?

His July 9th entry My Brick Is Damaged So I Cannot Fire The Kiln deals with damaged fire brick He writes” Insulated firebricks can withstand significant abuse and damage before they degrade sufficiently to cause kilns to become unusable.
