About the Juror, T Robert – Artists Statement
I am endlessly fascinated by the material and processes of clay. Today, I create clay art that is vessel referenced and atmospheric fired allowing the firing process to influence the surface color and texture of my pieces. I lean toward making work that is organic and abstract in form with a particular slant toward the Asian esthetic. Surfaces, for me, should juxtapose both visually and viscerally the values of texture encompassing rough, smooth and sharp. For the last couple of years I concentrated on 4 basic bodies of work, all of which relate to landscape and sky.
About the Juror, John Pacini – Artist Statement
I live for loading up the wood kiln and immersing myself in the communal nature of wood firing. The seemingly random marks from the fire path create a dynamic pattern that lends interest, character and composition to the surface. After years of seeking surface treatment I found that wood firing is the perfect surface finish to complement a clay body. The ultimate thrill of stoking the soul of the fire until dances through, around and over my post, leaving permanent record of its flight path is what moves me to the art of wood firing.
