Artillery – An Exhibition by Clayton Bailey

by Vicki Hardin on March 14, 2010

A440 Gallery presents renowned Bay Area Funk sculptor Clayton Bailey’s ARTILLERY.  The GUN SHOW at A440 Gallery features Bailey’s fantastic functional pop guns, ceramic guns, and exploding pottery.  Betty Bailey exhibits watercolor drawings of Clayton with his work, and their circle.  Clayton, known for his pioneering ceramic works, and his eccentric and electrifying robots and metal figures, taught for 27 years at CSU Hayward, where he holds the title of Professor Emeritus. Clayton Bailey significantly created an entirely new vocabulary for ceramics and found object constructions.  In the current show, you can see how Clayton’s technical mastery, profound wit, and deep humanity, inform an art that, while questioning and prodding, is also demystified and accessible.

This exhibition will include a reception on Saturday, March 20, 2010, from 2-5PM. The gallery is located at 49 Geary Street, 4th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94108. You may call the gallery at 510-593-0990 for more information or to see Clayton’s work online click this link.
