West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV1229722831_sm

Building on an international collaborative symposium held in October 2008 in Jingdezhen, China, the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA), West Virginia University and the Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute extend an extraordinary opportunity to engage in 3-days of inter-cultural discovery on the campus of West Virginia University from October 14-16, 2011. Programming will include distinguished lecturers, demonstrations and exhibitions.

1302660737_smShared Journeys II will explore a myriad influences and achievements of Chinese ceramic art by examining the legacies, and tensions of craftsmanship, pedagogy, philosophy and social currents that have shaped and transformed ceramic art in China over its 3000 year history into the present day. Behind the technical and artistic achievement of Chinese ceramic art are an array social structures and cultural beliefs and ideas about practice and production that will further inspire and provoke meaningful questions about ceramics, creativity and craftsmanship in the contemporary cultural landscape of global proportions.
