ICAF is a first-held international ceramic festival in Japan, which provides an opportunity to mingle with ceramic artists and ceramic lovers in the world through various interactive events such as workshops and slide lectures. Here in Japan, the home of ceramic culture, such events where ceramists can exchange their ideas and techniques has never been held so far. Only some international ceramic art competitions are exhibited. The venue, Sasama (Kawane cho, Shimada City, Shizuoka) is a scenic valley village, surrounded by abundant nature, known as a production area of high-quality green tea and a village where a steam locomotive is still regularly running. The idea of ICAF arose with an encounter of Sasama residents who want more people to know their beautiful village and Shozo Michikawa who have a strong will to have a festival for ceramists to inspire each other and exchange ideas in his country, Japan. It is now being brought to realization, supported by high-profiled ceramic artists who favor the concept of ICAF and volunteers who come from such diverse backgrounds such as architecture and publishing but now have ceramic-related activities in Seto, one of the well-known places for ceramics.Getting together to a small Japanese village from all over the world and make a leap to the world with the greatest messages and inspiration acquired in ICAF.
