New Work by Marianne Levy & Gery Henderson at 18 Hands Gallery, Houston TX

by Vicki Hardin on September 18, 2011

Showcasing the work of two Austin-are clay artists whose fanciful sculptural and figurative work will amaze and amuse, 18 Hands Gallery will feature new work by Marianne Levy and Gery Henderson with an opening scheduled for September 24th, 6-9:00 PM.

Gery Henderson’s art embodies images from low-rider street competitions, Mayan art, church jamaicas, Our Lady of Guadalupe, and el Día de los Muertos, with its playful representations of skulls, skeletons, devils, and coffins.

Says Marianne Levy of her own work: “I have always been drawn to working with the figure, whether it be human or animal. I often combine elements from the animal or natural world with the human form to express a fundamentally animalistic side of human nature. The results of these combinations are often surreal and hopefully humorous, albeit sometimes in a dark manner.”
