2012 CALIFORNIA CLAY COMPETITION

The Artery of Davis, California presents the 2012 CALIFORNIA CLAY COMPETITION

ELIGIBILITY: The competition is open to all California residents. Works accepted must be for sale, available for the duration of the exhibit, and made within the last two years. Artworks must be made of clay; or mixed media, with clay being the major emphasis of the work. Functional as well as sculptural forms are solicited. The work must fit through a standard doorframe and weigh no more than can be easily handled by two people. Wall pieces should be ready to hang using wire and/or cleats. Space is limited; approximately 35 works will be accepted from an expected 400 entries.

Juror: Nancy Servis as the juror for the 2012 California Clay Competition.  Nancy is the Executive Director of the Richmond Art Center in Richmond, California, where she established the Ceramic Study Center in 2009. She is a published author on contemporary ceramics and teaches the History of Ceramics at California College of the Arts in Oakland. Over the last fifteen years she has curated many shows addressing the use and innovation of clay including Stephen De Staebler: The Sculptor’s Way; Raku Mastery, and the Eve Aesthetic: Contemporary Figurative Clay Sculpture by Artists from TB-9. She recently completed the publication Contemporary Studio Ceramics: The Dauer Collection, Primping the Vacuous Soul: Recent Works by Misty Gamble, and is writing an essay on the ceramic artist, Ruth Rippon.
