The Workhouse Arts Center is proud to announce a call for entries for its 2nd Annual Workhouse Clay National Ceramics Exhibition 2012. This 2nd Annual Workhouse Clay National Ceramics Exhibition is an "Open Call" for functional and/or sculptural ceramic artworks. The focus of this year’s exhibit is to highlight the tremendous variety and depth of contemporary functional and sculptural ceramic artworks currently being created throughout the U.S.A.

Juror- Peter Held
Peter Held received his bachelor’s degree in studio art with an emphasis on ceramics from the State University of New York, Brockport. Upon graduation, he moved to Helena, Montana to become a resident artist at the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts. He later completed a master’s degree in museum administration at Oregon State University and interned at the Portland Art Museum in the Asian Art Department.

Held returned to Helena in 1994 to serve as executive director and curator of the Holter Museum of Art, where he helped successfully lead a $2.3 million capital and endowment campaign.

Since 2003, Held has been curator of ceramics at the ASU Art Museum Ceramics Research Center at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. He also serves as a trustee for the American Craft Council and is chair of its development committee.

Held has curated more than 75 exhibitions since 1989, including seven traveling ceramic shows: Ashen Beauty: Woodfired Ceramics; David Shaner: A Potter’s Work, 1963-1993; Sisters of the Earth: Native American Ceramics; A Ceramic Continuum: Fifty Years of the Archie Bray Influence; Between Clouds of Memory: Akio Takamori, A Mid-Career Survey; Eden Revisited: The Ceramic Art of Kurt Weiser and Innovation and Change: Great Ceramics from the ASU Art Museum Collection.

Entry Guidelines
Open to all ceramic artists 18 years and older residing in the U.S.
All works must be primarily ceramic. Mixed media works will be accepted only if ceramic materials are the primary media. The juror will make final determinations. Work must fit through a standard door. Floor works must be firmly stable. Installations shall be installed by artist. Wall-mounted pieces are limited to 20 lbs. per section. Work must have been produced within the last 3 years.

Materials: Hard & Soft

This annual competition and exhibition of contemporary crafts was started in 1987 and is now in it’s 25th year. Recognized nationally, Materials: Hard & Soft attracts hundreds of entries from every state in the union. Nationally recognized jurors select the show from slides and then award $5000 in prize money. The juror has always selected the winning pieces on-site. A catalog is printed. Many of the artists seen in the Materials exhibitions have been featured in national publications such as American Craft.

Wayne Art Center Call for Entries for Craft Forms 2012

Exhibit Dates: November 30, 2012 – January 26, 2013.

The 18th international juried exhibition dedicated to enhancing the public’s awareness of contemporary craft while providing a venue for established and emerging artists alike to share their functional and sculptural creative endeavors. All work must have been completed within the past two years and may not have been previously exhibited at the Wayne Art Center. Wayne Art Center reserves the right to reject entries that do not meet the requirements. Shipped work that differs from work accepted from digital submission will be disqualified. Work damaged in shipping will regretfully not be presented. All accepted work must have proper identification. No accepted work may be picked up before the closing of the exhibition. All work must be available for sale during application and until December 2, 2011. NFS or POR submissions will not be accepted. Withdrawal of accepted work prior to the exhibition will result in exclusion from exhibiting at WAC for the following year (2013).

Please note that price of entry may not be changed after it is set. WAC will retain 40% commission of the sale price. All work must be available for sale and therefore insurance will be set at 60% of sale value. NFS or POR submissions will not be accepted. All work will be insured while in the Wayne Art Center facility. WAC will not be responsible for loss or damage to work in transit to or from Wayne Art Center. Wayne Art Center will not responsible for loss, theft or damaged work after 30 days of the last day of show due to artist failing to retrieve exhibition work.

Requirements

  • Work submitted must be innovative and original in design. Work derivative of other artists or work created in a workshop with the aid of an instructor is not acceptable.
  • Open to all professional artists working in clay, fiber, glass, metal, wood and/or mixed media crafts.
  • Work must be a personal expression of the artist’s intent.

  • There is no size restriction.
  • Art work must be available for sale through the exhibit.

Call for Entries: 19th San Angelo Ceramic Competition

Call for Entries Deadline: February 1, 2012

The Nineteenth San Angelo National Ceramic Competition is sponsored by the San Angelo Museum Endowment for Ceramic Events, Darlene and John Williams and Trinity Ceramic Supply Inc. This show has been organized by and will be held at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts in San Angelo, Texas. Angelo State University works in close cooperation with the Museum. The exhibition highlights a broad range of attitudes in the clay medium from functional to sculptural work. The Museum devotes its entire space to the show. In the last competition over 100 works were displayed.

The competition is open to all artists who are residents of the United States, Canada, or Mexico. All work, both functional and sculptural, must have been completed within the last two years. Works previously accepted into this competition are ineligible.

Jurors: Garth Clark and Mark Del Vecchio – the preeminent international dealers in 20th-century ceramics. They founded Garth Clark Gallery in Los Angeles in 1981 and opened a second space in New York, which they operated from 1983 to 2008. They now live in Santa Fe and work as private dealers. They have organized eight major international symposia on ceramic history and criticism, published numerous books and catalogs and received a number of prestigious awards, both lifetime achievement and honorary doctorates.

Invited Artists: Kyle and Kelly Phelps – identical twin brothers, who work collaboratively on their narrative work exploring the topics of race, class and the working man at their studio in Centerville, Ohio. They both received BFA’s from Ball State University in Indiana and continued on to earn MFA degrees in Ceramics and Sculpture from the University of Kentucky. Kyle is Associate Professor of Art and head of the Ceramics area at the University of Dayton and Kelly is an Associate Professor of Art and head of the Sculpture area at Xavier University, both in Ohio

25th Annual North Carolina Potters Conference

Festival Guidelines
¨ Each Booth selling space will be 10’X 10’.
¨ One booth will be allotted per entry.
¨ Shared booths are discouraged, however if 2 or more artists from the same studio wish to
share a booth, slides must be submitted by all participating artists and will be juried as a
whole. With the exception of Husband/Wife/Partners.
¨ A non-refundable $25.00 jury fee must be submitted with all entries.
¨ A booth fee of $275.00 is also to be submitted in check form, and is non-refundable upon
acceptance—or will be returned, un-cashed, to those artists not accepted.
¨ Booth spaces are non-transferable.
¨ No commission will be charged on sales.
¨ General liability is required for each vendor. Neither our insurance nor your signature on
the application waiver covers what goes on within your selling space. This is covered by
your insurance only.
¨ A Wisconsin/ sellers Permit for is required with your entry.
¨ This is an outdoor show, rain or shine.. NO REFUNDS will be given.
